Final Character Piece

 

For my final piece I focused on the upper body so that I could get details into the face and the hair of my character. I also added the staff because I liked the design and also wanted to add magic into the picture to make it more interesting.

Model Sheet: Witch

 

For the model sheet I tried to get the basic outline of the characters clothes and also the base colours.

Second Final Environment

 

For the second environmental piece I used one the ideas from the final but added more mist using a soft brush setting. I also added more shape to the crows in the background.

First Final Environment

 

This is my first final for the environmental piece, I decided to use one of the thumbnails but give it some magic glow.

Character Sheet: Witch

 

This character sheet I first focused on the different emotions my character could display then I drew things that I could use as a reference like the staff and the war paint.

Fourth Colour Study: Environment

 

For this piece I used more autumnal colours so it would seem more like a forest with leaves on the ground. I also added a fog overlay so it would look more spooky. I think this piece looks a lot like the tree in ‘Sleepy Hollow’ as that was one of the references I used.

Third Colour Study: Environment

 

This is the third colour study for The Tinderbox environment, I like this because of the almost abstract look of the mountains in the background. Also I used more detail on some of the closer wood posts and crow.

Old Study: Alien

 

I found this old acrylic piece from my sketchbook, I like this one because of the different colours I mixed in.

Life Drawings: 30th October 2013

 

In this lesson we went to Norwich Castle and did some studies of the surrounding buildings, I chose this bridge because the light hitting was creating quite interesting shadows and bringing out some of the architecture of the bridge.

Composition: Analysis

Jason Chan ‘Harbinger’ – The composition of this piece mainly follows The Cross because of the woman being the main focal point and the man and lion at the back being facing opposite directions in a vague cross formation. Also because this piece is for a book illustration it uses the Iconic composition almost especially at the top like the placing of the woman and the two other characters. Another thing about this piece is that you are immediately drawn to the middle because of the orange light from the flame, this is because it contrasts with the duller cold colours of the background characters and emphasizes the woman in the middle.

Raymond Swanland ‘Storm Dragon’ – The composition of this piece seems to be a mix of the Divine Proportions with the eye drawn to the dragons head also the way the dragons body curves is similar to the spiral on a root 3 rectangle. Also the more basic composition could be a L shape because the main focal point is within a a frame. Also your eyes get drawn by the bright light towards the right of the picture this is just behind the dragons head.
